10 Things Every Bride Should Do Before the Wedding Day

The weeks before your wedding can feel like a whirlwind — excitement, nerves, and a never-ending to-do list. You’ve chosen the dress, the venue, the flowers… but somehow it still feels like there’s always something left.

As a Toronto Wedding Photographer who’s been part of hundreds of weddings, I’ve seen what truly helps brides stay calm, organized, and radiant on the big day. These are the little details most people forget — but they make all the difference between stress and joy.

Here’s a list of things you should definitely do before saying “I do.”

1. Break in your wedding shoes

New shoes + all-day standing = regret.
Even if they feel comfy during fittings, wear them around your home for a few days. Add those gel pads or heel grips if needed. Your feet will thank you when you’re still dancing at midnight instead of limping by dinner.

2. Make a “day-of” bag

Think survival kit: safety pins, deodorant, band-aids, perfume, snacks, a mini sewing kit, and a phone charger. Assign it to your maid of honor or planner. You’ll be shocked how often it saves the day — from lipstick smudges to sudden hunger.

3. Assign one person to handle calls and texts

On your wedding day, your phone should be off. Period.
Choose a calm friend or sibling who can answer logistical questions, talk to vendors, and make decisions if needed. It’s your day to be fully present — not answering “What time do we arrive?” fifty times.

4. Practice bustling your dress

Don’t wait until the reception to figure it out. Have someone watch how it’s done at your final fitting, take a photo, and practice it once or twice. A smooth bustle can save 15 minutes of awkward tugging later.

5. Plan quiet moments

Weddings move fast — like, really fast. You’ll blink and it’s over.
Schedule 10 minutes alone after the ceremony or before dinner, just you and your partner. No cameras, no guests. It’s a beautiful pause that lets you breathe and actually feel what just happened.

6. Steam and hang everything early

From dresses to suits to table linens — steam them a day before, not the morning of. Hang them in a clean, open space to keep them wrinkle-free. And yes, bring a travel steamer — it’s one of those “why didn’t we think of this earlier” items.

7. Eat breakfast and hydrate

Brides are famous for forgetting to eat. You’ll be up early, full of adrenaline, and probably skipping meals without realizing it.
Have a real breakfast — something with protein — and drink water. A fainting spell during vows is not the kind of drama you want.

8. Write your vows or letter early

If you’re writing personal vows or a love letter for your partner, do it at least a week before. Don’t leave it for the night before — trust me, you’ll be emotional and tired. Having them ready makes everything calmer and more meaningful.

9. Confirm everything with vendors

Three days before the wedding, send one clear email with your timeline, addresses, and final details. Confirm arrival times and contact numbers. It’s the best way to avoid last-minute confusion (and it helps vendors deliver their best work).

10. Sleep well and let go

The night before your wedding, don’t overthink. Put your phone away, listen to soft music, stretch, breathe, and rest. You’ve done everything you can — now it’s time to enjoy. The beauty of your day will come from joy, not perfection.

Bonus tip: Remember what matters most

You’re not just planning an event — you’re starting a marriage. The dress, flowers, and details will fade, but the love and laughter will stay forever. So if something doesn’t go exactly as planned… smile anyway.

Because real beauty lives in the imperfect, the emotional, and the true moments that make your day yours.
